Missie married Radford E. "Uncle Rad" Griffin on December 18, 1884, in Wise County, Texas. My grandmother, the late Johnnie Oates Robinson, whose grandmother, Bettie Canon, was a sister of Aunt Missie Griffin, shared the following memories: Aunt Missie and Uncle Rad Griffin lived in a four-room log house in the Knight Community near Segno. Menard Creek ran through their property, and there was a beautiful spot along Menard Creek where we would go on picnics when we visited them. Aunt Missie made the best homemade biscuits and butter that I ever ate, and she would put the milk in a jar, place the jar in a bucket, and lower the bucket down into the well to keep the milk cool. There was an apple tree on their farm and Aunt Missie also made delicious apple jelly. Aunt Missie canned everything--from vegetables in their garden to squirrels that Uncle Rad shot. ********************************************************************************** At her death in 1933, Aunt Missie Griffin was survived by her son, Boyd Griffin; her daughters, Exer Walters, Barbara Collins, Ether Cotten, Emma Mize, and Elva Collins; three sisters, Dollie Ditmore, Frances "Pinkie" Barnett, and Nancy Elizabeth "Bettie" Canon; 16 grandchildren and a great-grandson. *********************************************************************************** Aunt Missie was preceded in death by her parents, Seaborn Smith and Elizabeth Goodwin Smith; her husband, Radford E. Griffin; her daughter, Willie Griffin; 5 grandchildren; her brothers, John P. Smith, William H. Smith, Seaborn T. Smith and J. Monroe Smith; and two sisters, Sarah Ellen Brock Nicholas and Rebecca Jane Coker.
