The tombstone states Rad was born in 1859, but the actual year of his birth is 1860.
Radford Griffin married Dorcas Elvira "Aunt Missie" Smith on December 18, 1884, in Wise County, Texas. Uncle Rad and Aunt Missie Griffin lived most of their married life in Polk County. The death certificate of their oldest daughter says Exer was born in 1886 in Madison County. Emma Jane Griffin Hilton said her parents and family lived in Oklahoma for a year in what is now Love County where Aunt Missie's brother, Seaborn Smith, lived. The Polk County Deed Records show that on January 30, 1899, Rad and Missie Griffin purchased 100-acres of land in southern Polk County, and on December 4, 1905, Rad and Missie purchased 50-acres of the Bird Griffin Estate from Rad's mother, Mary Gray. ************************************************************************************ My grandmother, the late Johnnie Oates Robinson, who was a grand-niece of Aunt Missie Griffin, shared her memories of Uncle Rad Griffin: Uncle Rad built a split-log rail fence around his yard to keep the newly-fangled automobiles from ruining the dirt in his yard. Uncle Rad would go fishing in Menard Creek, and he would have the youngsters to catch lizards for him to use as fish bait. The youngsters would do it because they were more afraid of Uncle Rad's sharp voice than the lizards. Uncle Rad would also pour bacon grease from the skillet into his coffee in the mornings.
