James Monroe Smith was the son of Seaborn Smith and Elizabeth S. Goodwin Smith. He married Georgia Ann Canon on Dec. 26, 1883, in Hortense, Polk Co., Tx. They were the parents of two sons and three daughters. ************************************************************************************ Obituary from The Polk County Enterprise--30 Sept. 1915 (Livingston) Mr. J.M. Smith died at his home here Monday morning at 11:45 at the age of 62 years...The remains were carried to Jones Prairie Tuesday where interment was made...Mr. Smith leaves a wife; one son, R. T. of Onalaska; three daughters, Cordia, LuElla, and Nannie all of this place; two brothers, William and John of Jack County; six sisters, Mrs. J. I. Canon and Mrs. Radford Griffin of Polk County, Mrs. W. H. Barnett of Wise County, Mrs. John Ditmore of Hall County and Mesdames Nichols and Coker of Hopkins County to mourn his death. From the Polk County Enterprise--7 Oct. 1915 (Leggett) The remains of Mr. Monroe Smith of Livingston were brought here Tuesday and interred in the Jones Prairie Cemetery. ************************************************************************************ Uncle Monroe Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Seaborn and Elizabeth Goodwin Smith; his son, E. Roy Smith; and a brother, Seaborn T. Smith.
