Seaborn Smith married Elizabeth Goodwin on April 5, 1841, in Tallapoosa Co., Alabama. They were the parents of 10 children: four sons and six daughters. The Smith Family moved to Polk County, Texas, in 1856. Seaborn Smith purchased 640-acres on Bear Creek in what became known later as the community of Hortense. After the death of his wife in 1873, Seaborn Smith remained in Polk County until the mid-1880's when he moved to Wise County, Texas, where several of his children had settled. Seaborn Smith sold 640-acres of land to J. C. Feagin on June 1, 1881. This document for the deed of sale was not filed in the Polk County Courthouse in Livingston until August 25, 1885. Seaborn Smith still owned 200-acres of land in Polk County at the time of his death in 1896. At his death in 1896 at the age of 86 years, Seaborn Smith was survived by his 10 children: Sarah Ellen Smith Nicholas and her husband, Minityre Nicholas of Wise County, Texas; John P. Smith and his wife, Nancy J. Beard Smith of Jack County, Texas; Rebecca Jane Smith Coker of Hopkins County, Texas; William H.
