Joseph Bezdek Funeral 8:30 a.m. At Catholic Church Joseph Bezdek, 84, who came to the West community 72 years ago by ox wagon after immigrating to America from his native Czechoslovakia, passed away at his home Wednesday at 7:20 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. today, Friday, at Church of the Assumption with the Rev. E.J. Polcak officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at Aderhold Chapel Thursday evening. Born the second oldest son of Joseph and Amma (Polsek) Bezdek in Frenstat, Moravia, on November 22, 1869, he came to the United States with his parents, three brothers and four sisters in 1879. The family made the then petrilous trip from Galveston Bay to West by ox cart and settled on the Girard farm west of town. He married Mary Sulak on October 9, 1893, They were the parents of twelve children. Mr. Bezdek engaged in farming until 1943 when he retired and moved into West. He had been almost totally blind and was unable to get around without assistance for several months before his death. He suffered a fractured hip in a fall last November and had been confined to bed until his death. He was a 60-year charter member of West's K.J.T. Lodge, a Catholic Men's organization. Survivors are his widow, Mary Bezdek; six sons, Louis J. Bezdek, Vaclav Bezdek, and Frank Bezdek, all of West, Joe Bezdek of Abbott, Willie Bezdek of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Henry Bezdek of Corpus Christi; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Zatopek and Mrs. Anna Mae Snapka of Abbott, Mrs. Sophie Snapka and Mrs. Christine Knapek of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Agnes Soukup of West; three sisters, Sister M. Olivia of St. James, Louisiana, Mrs. Jos. Kotrla and Mrs. C.Y. Sulak of West; 43 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Charles Dvoracek, August Pustejovsky, Frank Seith, Louis Kramr, Cyril Svrcek and Pete Sykora.
