Charlie Bezdek, 78, Buried Monday A 71-year resident of the West community, Charlie Bezdek passed away downtown last Friday morning, September 18. He was 78 years of age. Funeral services were conducted at 9 a.m. Monday by his nephew, Father Frank Urbanovsky, and Rev. E.J. Polcak at the Church of the Assumption. Burial was in the St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at Aderhold Chapel Sunday. Mr. Bezdek was born in Frenstat, Czechoslovakia, and came to the United States at the age of 7 with his parents who settled here. He married Miss Susie Sykora at the Church of the Assumption on October 26, 1899, and throughout his active life was engaged in farming two miles north of here. He retired some 11 years ago and had since been a resident of West. He was a member of the KJT and RVOS Lodges and the Rosary Society of the Assumption Church. Twelve grandsons served as altar boys and pallbearers. The altar boys were Louis Cepak, Raymond Petter, Edward Petter, John Pustejovsky. Pallbearers were Marvin Cepak, Henry Pustejovsky, Frank Pustejovsky, Alvin Kallus, Ernest Bezdek and John Kallus. Survivors are his widow; two sons, L.D. Bezdek of West and Staff Sgt. Frank Bezdek of Maine; six daughters, Mrs. John Pustejovsky, Mrs. Frank Kallus, Mrs. Louis Cepak and Mrs. Edward Petter, all of Abbott, Mrs. E.M. Kutcherovsky of West, and Mrs. P.K. Pennock of Ft. Worth; one brother, Joseph Bezdek of West; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Sulak, Mrs. Johanna Kotrla, both of West, and Sister M. Olina of Louisiana; 23 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren.
