C.Y. Sulak, 78, Dies Following Long Life in Agriculture C.Y. Sulak, 78, one of Central Texas' outstanding pioneers in agriculture and the associated business of Cotton ginning, passed away Saturday. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. Pechal at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Abbott on Monday with burial in West's St. Mary's Cemetery , Rosary was recited at his home Sunday evening. Mr. Sulak was born the son of Paul and Josephine Hertous Sulak in Fayette County on April 3, 1876. He came to the West Community in 1883 when he was 7 years old. He married Annie Bezdek in the West Catholic Church in 1899. The couple had celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary five years ago. They were the parents of fifteen children. Mr. Sulak had been in the ginning business for 37 years. His son, Eugene Sulak, now operates the county-line gin that bore his name so long. Ill health forced Mr. Sulak's retirement in 1952. He became more seriously ill with his heart ailment last week and died on Saturday. He was a member of the KJT Lodge. Survivors include his widow, eight daughters, Mrs. Albert Cepak of Abbott, Mrs. C.M. Cepak, Mrs. Vince W. Gerik and Mrs. Johnny Gaidusek, all of Waco, Mrs. Leo Wrbas of Hubbard, Mrs. Edward Macicek of Galveston, Mrs. Jimmy Hykel of Abbott and Mrs. Alfred Marak of West; five sons, Joe Sulak and Eugene Sulak, both of West, Cyril Sulak of Arlington, Louis J. Sulak of Corpus Christi and Charles Sulak of Waco; 50 grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Two daughters of the Sulaks died in infancy. Pallbearers were six grandsons, George Sulak, Dennis Sulak, Edward Cepak, Daniel Cepak, Edward Gerik and Freddie Cepak.
