Sophia Johanna (Sulak) Wrbas, age 90 of West formerly of Hubbard, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2002 in West Rest Haven. Rosary was recited 7 p.m. Sunday, December 15th in Kotch Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant, and Rev. Walter Matus and Rev. Charles Van Winkle as Co-Celebrants. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Mrs. Wrbas was born May 5, 1912 in West and had lived in Hubbard for 51 years. She was a resident of Harker Heights for eight years and a resident of West for the past three years. Mrs. Wrbas, the former Sophia Sulak, married Leo Wrbas January 29, 1940 at West. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1987. She was employed at Kreditor Mfg. Company in Hubbard as a machine operator for a number of years. Mrs. Wrbas was a member of the K.J.Z.T. Society #35 of Penelope and Catholic Daughter of America Court #829, she was a former member of the Catholic Church of Nativity, B.V.M. in Penelope, St. Joseph of Killeen, St. Paul's of Harker Heights and she was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mr. Wrbas is survived by three daughters, Eugenia Goldman of Mt. Airy, Maryland, Marcia Wrbas of Bastrop, and Sharyn Hall of Harker Heights; three sisters, Lucille Hykel, Lillie Marak and husband, Alfred, and Margaret (Polly) Gaidusek and husband Johnny, all of West; five grandchildren and one-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. Active Pallbearers were John Altus, Tom Altus, Alfonso Leyendecker, Jr., John Prilop, Norman Sulak and Cyrill Sulak, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers were Edward Gerik, Ronald S. Hall, Jr., Eugene Horak, Alfred Marak, Jr., and Catholic Daughters of America Court #829. Kotch Funeral Home of West was in charge of the arrangements.
