Bio

Mrs. Otellie Mae Sulak Gerik, age 91, died July 21, 1996 at Hillcrest Memorial Hospital in Waco. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. July 22 in Kotch Funeral Home Chapel in West. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Mrs. Gerik was born September 24, 1904 in Aquilla, the daughter of C.Y. and Anna Sulak. She attended Sulak School that was built on Sulak property and was shared by the farming community. She married Vince W. Gerik in West on January 20, 1927 and they made their home in West where their only son, Edward J. Gerik was born. She was a homemaker and loved tending her garden and flower beds. She was a devote Catholic and loved to pray the Rosary and attend church. Mrs. Gerik was preceded in death in 1979 by her husband, Vince Gerik. She had been a member of the Chapel Family at Regis/St. Elizabeth Center. Prior to that she was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in Waco. She had been very active in the Altar Society and The Womens Guild, where she constructed many different crafts for the bazaars. Survivors are one son, Edward James Gerik and wife Bernadette of San Antonio; four grandsons, Anthony Matthew and wife Marsha of North Carolina, Timothy James and wife Bonnie of Florida, Thomas Wayne, pending marriage of Cynthia of San Antonio, Jeffery Allen and wife Pamela of Lockhart; four great-grandchildren, Alex, Emily, Morgan and Allan; five sisters, Margaret Gaidusek of Waco, Lilly Marak of West, Lucille Hykel of West, Sabina Macicek of Galveston, and Sophie Vrbas of Harker Heights; two brothers, Joe Sulak of West and Eugene Sulak of West. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Cepak and Agnes Cepak; and three brothers, Cyril Sulak, Charlie Sulak and Louis Sulak. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Anthony, Timothy, Thomas and Jeffery and nephews, Dennis Sulak, George Sulak and Joseph Cepak. Kotch Funeral Home of West was in charge of arrangements.
