Henry Peter Serbus was born on 29 August 1873 to Jan and Rosile Brtek Serbus, in Sleepy Eye, Brown County, Minnesota. When Henry was ten years old, he moved with his family to Henryville Township, Renville County, Minnesota. On 24 November 1896, Henry married Mary Ann Kubesh, the daughter of John and Josephine Kubesh, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bechyn, Minnesota. Henry and Mary had 11 children: Henry A., Anthony G., Beatrice V., Angela C., Peter R., Elizabeth M., Helen R., Harriet J., Mildred C., Marie M., and Dorothy V. Serbus. Henry Peter Serbus was a successful farmer in Henryville Township, Renville County, Minnesota. He worked on his parent's (Jan and Rosa Serbus) farm and after his father's death in 1897, he took charge of the farm. He stayed on the farm until 1899 when he bought 160 acres of land in the Northeast Quarter, Section 26, of Henryville Township. Henry developed this farm and erected a fine monolithic concrete silo; and a good barn, chicken house, and hog house. He raised and registered large Yorkshire hogs. He fed one car each of cattle and hogs for the market every year. He continued farming after his marriage. Henry semi-retired and moved to Olivia, Minnesota, seven years prior to his death. At the time of his death, he and his son, Henry Anton, still operated the farm. Henry said that it was from his farm, then owned by the O'Neill family, that the ill-fated trip by bobsled started in 1873. During this trip, three O'Neill brothers and two Holden brothers were caught in a terrible blizzard. Mike Holden was the only survivor; the other four perished in the storm. The O'Neill and Holden farm homes were only 40 rods apart. Henry served as Henryville Township Constable for five years and was a member of the Renville County Swine Breeders' Association. He was the Henryville Township Director of the Association. Henry Peter Serbus suffered a stroke at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, 30 June 1963, and he died two hours later at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota. He had suffered a stroke five years earlier and had been ailing with a heart condition. The funeral service for Henry Peter Serbus was held on Wednesday, 03 July, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia, Minnesota. Father T. D. Szymanski officiated and burial followed in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota. Henry's grandson's served as pallbearers.
