Bio

Anton Joseph “Tony” Serbus was born on 16 June 1875, near Sleepy Eye in Brown County, Minnesota, to Jan (John) and Rosile Brtek Serbus. Anton married Anna Kubesh on 13 February 1899 and they lived in Olivia where Anton operated a restaurant for a few years. They later divorced; Anna died on 15 January 1983. Anton lived in Vesta, Minnesota, in 1900, in Yellowstone County, Montana, in 1917 and 1918, and took a homestead in North Dakota in 1919, where he farmed for several years before he moved to Portland, Oregon. Anton died from cancer of the face on 21 November 1959, at a hospital in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon. He was 84 years old and had been in failing health for two months prior to his death. Anton’s body was transported to Olivia, Minnesota. The funeral service for Anton Joseph Serbus was held in St. Mary’s Catholic Church on 06 November 1959; Father Eugene Sebesta officiated. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota. Anton was survived by three of his brothers, Henry and John Serbus of Olivia and Adolph Serbus of St. Paul.
