Bio

Peter R. Serbus was born on 01 April 1908, to Henry and Mary (Kubesh) Serbus, in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota. Henry married Mabel Minkel on 17 May 1933. They had eight children, Robert, Dennis, Richard, Donald, Gordon, Catherine, Margaret, and Randy. Peter was a carpenter and he and Mabel farmed near Kimball, Minnesota, from 1945 until 1996, when they moved to Watkins, Minnesota. Peter was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and the Watkins Senior Citizen’s Center. Peter R. Serbus died at the age of 91 on Thursday, 12 August 1999, at the Hilltop Good Samaritan Center in Watkins, Meeker County, Minnesota. Peter’s wife, Mabel Minkel Serbus, died on 27 February 1996. Peter was survived by seven children and their spouses, Dennis and Dorothee, Richard and Connie, Donald and Eileen, Gordon and Kathi, all of Kimball; Catherine and Bill Russell of Lake Mary, Florida, Margaret and Jack Purcell of Annandale, and Randy and Margaret of New London; two sisters, Helen Mogren of Minneapolis and Dorothy Hudak of Lindstrom; 33 grandchildren; and, 26 great-grandchildren. Peter was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel; son, Robert; grandchildren, Stacy Purcell and Collin Serbus; two brothers, Henry and Anthony; and, six sisters, Beatrice, Ann, Betty, Harriet, Mildred, and Marie. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Peter on Saturday, 14 August 1999, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Kimball; Reverend Frank Tomasiewicz officiated. Burial followed in St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery in Kimball, Stearns County, Minnesota. Pallbearers were Doug, Mark, Monte, Terry, and Charles Serbus and Leon Purcell.
