Whitney Messenger Thursday, August 7, 1980 PERRY "PED" SHELLEY Mr. Perry "Ped" Shelley, age 87, of Whitney died Sunday, August 3, 1980 in the Whitney Hospital. Funeral services was held Tuesday, August 5, at 3:30 p.m. at the Marshall and Marshall Chapel in Whitney with Rev. Eddie Booth and Mr. Larry Shelley officiating. Interment was in Bethelhem Cemetery. Mr. Shelley was born October 31, 1892 in Gravitt, Ark., the son of Sarah Jane and Joseph W. Shelley. The family moved to Hill County to Fort Graham Community near Whitney when he was one year old. Mr. Shelley lived most of his life in this area. He was a farmer and a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. He first married Allie Lee Grant. She died January 1, 1918. On April 18, 1919 he married Miss Mamie Ivy. Also preceding him in death was an infant son; also a son, James R. Shelley died November 22, 1944 while serving in the U.S. Army. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mamie Shelley of Whitney; 6 children, Darrell Shelley of Whitney; Adeline Bush of Whitney; Oma Dell Young of Roxboro, NC; Perry Shelley Jr. of Whitney; Bettye Ryno of Lancaster and W.A. Shelley of Seagoville; 3 brothers, Hershel Shelley of Fresno, Calif.; Earl Shelley of Whitney; Roland Shelley of Whitney; 1 sister, Novella Barnes of Whitney; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. Known as Daddy Shelley to all the grandkids and great grandkids
