Whitney Messenger Thursday, March 4, 1976 Mr. L. O. Shelley of Hillsboro died Wednesday morning, February 25, in a local hospital. He was born July 9, 1899 in Fort Graham in Hill County, son of the late Joe and Sarah Shelley. He was a retired school teacher, having taught in Whitney, Itasca, Osceola and Prairie Valley. He was a member of the Whitney Order of the Eastern Star and of the First Baptist Church in Whitney where he served as a deacon for many years. He married Lora Lee Brown January 14, 1920 in Whitney and she preceded him in death February 5,1955. He later married Norvella Ann Guffy in 1956. He was also preceded in death by a son, Gerald W. Shelley Sr. June 29, 1974. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday February 27, at the First Baptist Church in Whitney. Burial was at the Hillcrest Garden of Memory Cemetery near Hillsboro. Survivors include his wife; one son Joe Shelley of Canada; four brothers, Earl Shelley, Perry Shelley, and Roland Shelley all of Whitney and Hershal Shelley of California; two sisters, Mrs. Novella Barnes and Mrs. Lavada Stansberry both of Whitney; and four grandchildren.
