He was the son of James Perry and Mamie (Ivy) Shelley. He married Bobbie Jean Freeman on June 15, 1956 in Valley Mills, Texas. He had lived in the Whitney area most of his life and had worked for J. W. Payne Construction for 35 years; retiring in 1997. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Shelley and Darrell Shelley and sister, Oma Dell Young. Survivors include his wife, Bobbie of Whitney; children, Debbie Jones and husband, Chris of Mansfield, Janet Walker and husband, Tim of Weatherford; brother, Perry Shelley Jr. of Whitney; two sisters, Adeline Bush and Betty Ryno, both of Whitney; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
