The Lakelander Thursday, September 19,1991 Mr. Darrel Shelley 1912-1991 Mr. Darrel Shelley, age 78 of Whitney, a retired road construction worker, died Monday, September 9 in Clifton hospital. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 11,1991at Marshall and Marshall Chapel in Whitney with Larry Shelley and Reverend Eddie Booth officiating. Burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery near Whitney. Mr. Shelley was born December 18,1912 near Whitney, the son of James Perry and Allie Lee (Grant) Shelley. He lived in the Whitneyarea all his life. He married Lena Young on September 17,1943 and she died April 10,1977. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a Baptist. He is survived by: two sons, Larry Andrew Shelley of Lawton, Oklahoma and Harold Adrian Shelley of Whitney; two brothers, Perry Shelley Jr. of Whitney and W.A. Shelley of Lufkin; two sisters, Adeline Bush of Whitney and Bettye Ryno of Whitney; and eight grandchildren.
