Bio

The Wellington Leader November 27, 1980 Mrs. L.E Brisbin, who had lived in Collingsworth County longer than all but a few of its present residents, died at 8:03 a.m. Saturday, November 22, in Collingsworth General Hospital. She was 90 years of age. She came here with her parents, the late Robert Rankin and Laura E. Atkinson Rankin, in 1897, and during her lifetime saw much of the county's progress and witnessed or was familiar with many of its major happenings. She was born January 13, 1890, in Piemont, Alabama, and before coming here, the family lived at Denton, the area from which many of the county's earliest citizens came. She was married to Lawrence Brisbin November 24, 1904, at Mangum. They lived for many years in the Quail area. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors are a son, Ira Brisbin of Amarillo; two daughters, Mrs. Cleo Messer and Mrs. Travis (Oma Lee) McGuire of Wellington; three sisters, Mrs. Esther Watts of Wellington, Mrs. Pauline Shinn of Lubbock and Mrs. Bernice Lane of Childress; one brother, Arthur Rankin of Olton; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She also raised two of her grandchildren, Benny Forrester and Jim Forrester of Wellington, whose mother, Mrs. Hazel Forrester died in 1943. Mrs. Brisbin was also preceded in death by a son, Jack Brisbin, in 1976 and by her husband in 1975. ******************************************************
