------------------------- The Wellington Leader October 14, 1976 Jack Brisbin, 56, who was associated with Wellington and Amarillo hardware stores for more than 30 years, died in Amarillo at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, October 1, after a 9 months illness. He was director of purchasing for Morrow Thomas Hardware for a long period of years, and after that business was dissolved six years ago, he became a buyer for Amarillo Hardware. Upon returning from service in World War II, he began work for Sullivan Hardware, learning this business under the late Pink Sullivan, owner. Later he was associated with Sam Gholson in Wellington Hardware until he and his family moved to Amarillo in 1960. His illness was diagnosed in January, but he continued his work, and later was awarded and made a trip to the Bahama Islands with a group of hardware men. Leon H (Jack) Brisbin was born in the Lillie Community February 5, 1920, the son of Mrs. L E Brisbin and the late Mr. Brisbin. He attended King School and graduated from Quail High School in 1938. Jack Brisbin was recognized as one of the finest basketball players the county ever produced. He was captain of the Ouail team that won the state Class B basketball title, and he was also captain for three years of the Quail team that was in AAU competition. He served as a staff sergeant with the Air Corps in World War II, assigned as a radio operator. He took part in the North African, Sardenian and Italian Campaigns, and later was attached to the OSS in Naples. He received several decorations. Mr. Brisbin was married to Miss Bennie Dodson of Quail June 26, 1941, in Wellington. He was a member of Polk Street Methodist Church, Amarillo. Mr. Brisbin was highly respected in area and state hardware associations. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Bonnie Brisbin, and one son, Collin, of Amarillo; his mother, Mrs. L E Brisbin; two sisters, Mrs. Travis McGuire and Mrs. Cleo Messer; and one brother, Ira Brisbin of Amarillo. -------------------------
