----------------- Mrs. Rosa Soukup, Mother of Five Sons in WWII Dies Funeral services were held Monday at 9 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption for Mrs. Anton J. Soukup of Route 1. Mrs. Soukup died in a Waco hospital Saturday after an illness of two weeks. She was 74 years old. Rosary was recited at the residence at 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial was in the St. Mary's Cemetery. Rev. E.J. Polcak officiated at the funeral services. Survivors are nine sons, Frank Soukup, Joe Soukup, Anton Soukup, Rudolf Soukup, Ben Soukup, Louis Soukup, Emil Soukup, Jim Soukup, Walter Soukup, West; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Frances Bezdek, Mrs. Annie Kapczynski, Miss Lucille Soukup, Mrs. Sophie Piscacek, and Mrs. Martha Rejcek, all of West; one brother, Frank Lichnovsky of West; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Banister of Dallas; 24 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Soukup was born August 17, 1877, at Frenstat, Czechoslovakia. Her maiden name was Rosa Z. Lichnovsky. She came to the United States in 1896 and settled on the Clyde Bennett farm. The house in which the family lived still stands on the Bennett place. She was married to Anton J. Soukup in 1898. Her husband preceded her in death in 1934. Mrs. Soukup had been ill only two weeks before her death. During World War II she was the first mother from West to have five sons serve in the Armed Forces. Mrs. Soukup and her family had lived on their homeplace 5 miles west of West for the past 19 years. Pallbearers were Jerome Lednicky, Henry Lednicky, H. J. Kozelski, Albin Sulak, Charles Dvoracek, Sr., and Emil Jerabek.
