Bio

Benjamin V. Soukup, age 87, of Route 1, West, passed away Wednesday morning November 8, 1995, in West Community Hospital. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Nov. 9 in Kotch Funeral Home Chapel, West. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10 a.m. Nov. 10 in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with the Rev, Melvin Dornak as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery with full military honors conducted by West V.F.W. Post #4819. Mr. Soukup was born August 2, 1908, in West and had lived all of his life at West. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, the Hill County Farm Bureau, and V.F.W. Post #4819 of West. Mr. Soukup was a retired farmer. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army in the Signal Corps. Survivors include two brothers, Emil Soukup and Walter Soukup, both of Rt. 1, West; four sisters, Miss Lucille Soukup, Mrs. Annie Kapczynski, Mrs. Sophie Piscacek and Mrs. Martha Rejcek, all of West and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers were Arthur Deiterman, Bobby Kreder, Bill Dokupil, Richard Nors, Ben Kapczynski and Eugene Rejcek. Honorary pallbearers were members of V.F.W. Post #4819, Dr. D.B. Pierce, Ralph Briscoe, Joe Edd Grimm and Alfred (Slick) Hlavenka. Kotch Funeral Home of West was in charge of arrangements.
