Emil A. "Slim" Soukup, 86, of West, passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 22, 2006, in a Waco nursing home. Rosary will be recited 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West, followed by Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Vincent Chacko and the Rev. Ed Karasek as co-celebrants. Military graveside rites will follow, conducted by West VFW Post 4819 at St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kotch Funeral Home. Emil was born near West, Texas, to the late Anton J. and Rosa (Lichnovsky) Soukup. He had lived in the West area most of his life, and was a retired farmer. Emil was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army under General Patton and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the EAME Campaign Medal with seven bronze stars and numerous other medals. He was also a member of VFW Post 4819 of West, St. Mary's Church of the Assumption and the Knights of Columbus Council #2305. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and five sisters.
