Mary A. King, 87, of Ross passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 27, 2004, at her residence. She was born August 12, 1916, in Tokio, daughter of the late Joseph Charles and Anastazie Emily Jaska. She attended schools in Menlow, Treadwell, Tokio and St. Mary's School of West, graduating from West High School in 1933. She also graduated from Waco Beauty School. On May 2, 1943, she was united in marriage to John King in Tampa, Florida, and he preceded her in death April 26, 1999. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, fishing, quilting, playing dominoes, especially 42, taroky, bingo and working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was postmaster at Ross for 27 years until her retirement April 1, 1977. She and her brother, John Jaska, worked together and sold hamburgers at the White House Grocery in West, which is new Michelle's Restaurant. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, KJZT #11, St. Ludmila Society, Catholic Daughters of America Court #829 and Ross Home Demonstration Club for over 50 years. She also taught catechism at St. Mary's School. She was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Jamie Chudej; one great-grandson, John Davis, Jr.; and one son-in-law, Ed-ward Dudik. Survivors include: two sons, John King, Jr. and wife, LaDonna, of Whitney and Sam King and wife, Elaine, of Ross; eight daughters, Mary Ruth Schroeder and husband, Jack, and Roberta Gerik and husband, Brice, all of West, JoAnn Kreder and husband, Gary, Theresa Walker, Monica King and Tommy Janek, all of Ross, Martha Stalkfleet and husband, Brad, of Crowley, Edith Kubala and husband, Mark, of Cottonwood and Cecilia Kuklies and husband, Robert, of Lake Jackson; two brothers, Ernest (Bobo) Jaska and wife, Judy, of West and Louis Jaska and wife, Frances, of Ross; one sister, Stasie Janek, of West; 32 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West by Janice Kaluza. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, at St. Mary's Church with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery.
