Bio
Caroline Sophrona Phillips was born 8 February 1848 in Greenville, South Carolina. She was 7th of the 10 children born to Stephen B Phillips (1810-1898) and Juliet Hawkins Phillips (1813-1891). Siblings: John Wesley Phillips (1832-1904), Susan Catharine Phillips [Burk] (1834-1914), Mary Elizabeth Phillips [Mitchell] (1837-1858), Edward Stephen Phillips (1839-1922), William Theador Phillips (1842-1921), Sarah Sopshire Phillips [Chesnutt] (1845-1918), Emily Jane Phillips [Fowler] (1850-1893), George Washington Phillips (1853-1925) and Robert Perry Phillips (1856-1939). Sometime between 1851 and 1853 her father moved his family from Greenville, South Carolina to Bradley County, Tennessee. It was there that she met a young school teacher by the name of Andrew Jackson Meyers. She and Andrew were married on 9 November 1865. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Walker County, Georgia along with Caroline's parents. They became the parents of 12 children: Henry James Meyers (1866-1904), Louisa Hazeltine [Meyers] Burk (1868-1926), William E. Meyers (1870-1887), Juliet Ada [Meyers] Poole (1873-1910), Ottis Clinton Meyers (1875-1928), Virginia Meyers (1876-1878), Lorenzo Madison Meyers (1878-1937), Jesse Lee Meyers (1880-1923), Nora [Meyers] Walden (1882-1965), George P. Meyers (1884-1947) Freddie Meyers (1886-1887), and Homer Meyers (1889-1911). She died 9 April 1903 in Cassandra, Walker, Georgia and was buried in the Coulter Memorial Cemetery, Cassandra, Walker County, Georgia. Note:(Her children; Henry, William, Juliet [Ada], Virginia, Jesse, Nora, Freddie and Homer are all buried in this cemetery as well and Louisa, Ottis, Lorenzo and George are all buried in the same cemetery just across the border in Chattanooga, Tennessee). Note: Family records and family bible indicate that Caroline was born in 1848, but her headstone shows 1845 as her birth date. I have verified that her sister Sarah was born in October of 1845 and they were not twins so I would have to conclude that the 1848 birth year is the correct one.
