Bio

Lorenzo Madison Meyers was born 23 April 1878 in Cooper Heights, Walker, Georgia, USA. He was the 7th of twelve children born to Andrew Jackson Meyers (1843-1908) and Caroline Sophrona Phillips Meyers (1845-1903). Siblings: Henry James Meyers (1866-1904), Louisa Hazeltine [Meyers] Burk (1868-1926), William E. Meyers (1870-1887), Juliet Ada [Meyers] Poole (1873-1910), Ottis Clinton Meyers (1875-1928), Virginia Meyers (1876-1878), Jesse Lee Meyers (1880-1923), Nora Mary [Meyers] Walden (1882-1965), George P. Meyers (1884-1947) Freddie Meyers (1886-1887), and Homer Meyers (1889-1911). Lorenzo grew up on the family farm near Lookout Mountain on the Georgia/Tennesse border. He married Martha Frances Shaw on 5 November 1899 in Walker County, Georgia. Children: Reita Mae Meyers (1901–1966), William Roy Meyers (1905-1988), Archie Lee Meyers (1907–1977) and Lora E. [Meyers] Coleman/Cox (1909–1972). Lorenzo was employed as a train checker for Southern Railroad for 37 years. In early April of 1937 he developed Cellulitis in his back that became infected and he was admitted to the Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia on 19 April 1937. He passed away there a week later on 26 April 1937, three days after his 59th birthday. Cause of death was listed as Septicemia and Staphylococcus. Lorenzo was laid to rest in the Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga, Hamilton, Tennessee on 27 April 1937.
