Bio

Jerome Herl, 91, 115 E. 16th, died Wednesday, Oct. 15 at St. Anthony Hospital. He was born Sept. 13, 1889 to Hieronimus and Rosalia (Schumacher) Herl. On June 22, 1915 he married Philomena Pfannenstiel at Munjor. She died in 1961. A life-time resident of Ellis County, Herl moved to Hays in 1950 upon retiring from farming. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include three sons, Celestine, Hutchinson, Edwin, Victoria, and Alvin, Ogallah; six daughters, Mrs. Regina Leiker, Mrs. Armella Wittman, Mrs. Alice Kriutzer, Mrs. Leona Geist and Miss Marietta Herl, all of Hays, and Mrs. Irene VonFeldt, Victoria; three brothers, Anton, Munjor, Paul, Quinter, and Frank, Dodge City; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Marie Dreiling, Victoria, and Julia Herl, Hays; 36 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. at the church; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at Brock's North Hill Chapel 7 - 9 tonight and 1 - 9 p.m. Friday. A parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
