Leona Marie Geist, 73, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at Hays Medical Center. She was born Nov 7, 1929, in Victoria to Jerome and Philomena (Pfannenstiel) Herl. She married Alfred Geist on May 23, 1950, in Hays. She worked at Fort Hays State University's Memorial Union for 20 years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and spent her lifetime in the Hays area. Survivors include her husband, Alfred Geist, of the home; her children, Gary Geist, Tom Geist, Ron Geist, Paul Geist, Mary Lou Barnes, all of Hays, Jane Zeman, Schoenchen, Roseann Geist, Hays, Linda Skillett, Rush Center, and Dale Geist, Hays; four sisters, Regina Leiker, Armella Wittman, Alice Kreutzer, all of Hays, and Marietta Herl, Victoria; 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by twin sons, John and Paul Geist; a daughter, Mary Geist; three brothers, Celestine Herl, Edwin Herl and Alvin K Herl; and a sister, Irene VonFeldt. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St Joseph Cemetery, Hays. Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, all at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E 22nd. A vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the church, Cancer Council of Ellis County or Masses.
