Alvin K. Herl, 74, died Feb. 13, 1998 at Hays Medical Center. He was born May 27, 1923 in Munjor to Jerome and Philomena (Pfannenstiel) Herl. He married Dorothy Karlin on Nov. 20, 1945 in Catherine. He was a lifelong resident of Ellis. He was a farmer-stockman. He worked in the oil fields and was on the construction crew for Cedar Bluff Dam. Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Ron, Don, and Alvin Jr., all of Ogallah; three daughters, Jeannette Augustine, Ellis, Joyce Kinderknecht, Collyer, and Joan Neufeldt, Moundridge; five sisters, Regina Leiker, Armella Wittman, Alice Kreutzer and Leona Geist, all of Hays, and Irene VonFeldt and Marietta Herl, both of Victoria; 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Celestine and Edwin J. Herl. Services were Feb. 16 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Fathers Kevin Weber and Mike Suchniki officiating; burial in the church cemetery. Memorials will be used according to the wishes of the family.
