Henry Miner, Company L, 9th Illinois Cavalry: ∼ Henry was born the son of Luke and Lucy Ann Miner. He married first wife Eliza Hood in Warren county, Illinois on 8 February 1862. Eliza may have been the sister of Mahlon Hood, who was given a disability discharge from Co. C of the 7th Illinois Cavalry in January 1862. Henry joined Company L of the 9th Illinois Cavalry later that same year for a period of 3 years, but his enlistment papers do not list whether he was married, divorced or widowed. (The enlistment papers for Mahlon Hood, who married in 1859 and enlisted in 1861, were also left blank in the marital status section.) Henry then married Sarah B. Hunnicutt (1848-1875) on 22 February 1866 in Warren county, Illinois. They were the parents of 6 children, 3 of whom died young: 1 - Jesse C. Miner, born 1867 and died 1918. Married Rebecca Pritchard on 31 October 1888 in Knox county, Illinois. Father of two. 2 - Edith, born 1869 and died 1941. Wife of Harry Walker, mother of one. 3 - Franklin, born 1870 and died 1953. Married Maude Munson, and was the father of two. 4 - Olive, born 1 Feb 1871 and died 9 days later. 5 - George, born 1872 and died 1885. 6 - Eddie, born and died 1875 some time after his mother. The Monmouth "Weekly Review" of Friday, 25 May 1877 published the "Cameron" column, dated 23 May 1877, stating "that Henry Miner, of Floyd, was married last Saturday." No bride was mentioned, and no marriage record has been found. Henry then married Lydia Virginia Burkolder, the widow(?) of William J. Reid, on 18 March 1885 in Warren county. There may have been some relationship between Lydia and Eliza Hood. Together, Henry and Lydia were the parents of 3 children: 1 - Earl W., born 1886. Married Hazel D. Johnson, and was the father of three. 2 - Nora Gertrude, born 1889. Nora married Joseph Thomas, and was the mother of two sons. 3 - Myrtha, born 1891, died prior to 1898. Lidia preceded Henry in death on 3 September 1909, in Abingdon, Knox county, Illinois. She was buried at Monmouth cemetery. Henry was admitted to the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home at Quincy, Illinois during 1914. He listed that he had no wife, and 5 unnamed children living, ages 25, 28, 44, 46, and 47 years old. His pension index card states he died at Abingdon, Illinois on 12 August 1915.
