Son of Luke and Lucy Ann (Miner) Miner. Lafayette enlisted for a term of 100 days as a member of Company C, 138th Illinois Infantry. He joined on 9 May 1864 at Cameron, Illinois, mustered in at Quincy, Illinois on 21 June 1864, and was discharged at Springfield, Illinois on 14 October 1864. Lafayette married (Mrs.?) Clara J. Palmer in Warren county, Illinois on 11 September 1876. One daughter, Maude, was born to the couple. The family lived in Warren county through the 1880 census, but was listed in Custer county in the 1885 Nebraska census (possible next to his widowed brother?). They were living in Valley county, Nebraska in 1890 and 1900. By 1910, they were living in Burwell, Garfield county, Nebraska, and remained there through 1920. Lafayette was preceded in death by his wife, Clara, in 1923, his parents, and all of his nine brothers and sisters. He was survived by his daughter, Mrs. Maude Fuller. Lafayette was married for a time to Martha Belle Means, widow of John Montgomery Jones, but later divorced. All were former residents of Warren county, Illinois, with both John and Lafayette passing away in Ord, Nebraska. The pension index cards for John M. Jones states to see the file of Lafayette Miner, while the card for Lafayette Miner states to see the file of John M. Jones. No widow's claim was listed on Lafayette's pension card. ================== Note: The following death notice says he died in Grand Island, Nebraska, at the Soldiers' Home. Grand Island (Nebraska) Herald; Thursday, 30 August 1928. page 5 The death of Lafayette Miner [sic], a veteran of the Civil war, occurred at the Soldiers' Home at 11 p.m. Monday. Chronic intestinal nephritis was give as the cause of his demise at the age of seventy-nine years. Surviving are the widow and a daughter, Mrs. Maud Fuller, of Burwell. The remains were taken to Burwell for burial.
