Herald Coaster, February 26, 1961: Services were held Saturday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. for Paul Bettin, Sr. Mr. Bettin passed away at his home in Needville Thursday. Rites were held from the Immanuel E&R Church, with Rev. Ed Weltge officiating. Mr. Bettin came to the United States from Germany at the age of two years. A Needville resident for 54 years, he was a member of the sons of Herman Lodge and of the Needville E&R Church. Mrs. Bettin preceded her husband in death several years ago. Survivors include six sons, Louis, Edwin, Herbert, Nelson, and Melvin of Needville, and Paul Jr. of Rosenberg; four daughters, Mrs. Ella Mesecke of Needville, Mrs. Minnie Oakes of Rosenberg, Mrs. Lillie Shefcik of Cordele, Mrs. Nell Rose Garrett of McAllen; one sister, Mrs. John Kueck of Needville; 12 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
