Extracted from Herald Coaster, February 13, 2003: Funeral services for Minnie Emma Oakes, age 94, of Rosenberg [were held].. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rosenberg with Rev. Dale Peterson officiating. Burial followed in Rosenberg City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Calvin Shefcik, Eugene Shefcik, Gary Zdunkewiz, Earl Bennett, Arlis Preiss, and Milton Wright. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Herbert Bettin Jr. Mrs. Oakes was born May 22, 1908, in Needville to Paul Bettin Sr. and Meta Kueck Bettin. She was the oldest member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rosenberg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Arnold Schultz; her second husband, Roy Lee Oakes Sr.; son, Roy Lee Oakes Jr.; brothers, Louis, Paul Jr., Edwin, Bennie, Herbert, Nelson, Melvin, and Leonard Bettin; sister, Hulda Bettin, Betty Bettin, Ella Mesecke, and Lillie Shefcik. Survivors include .. her sister, Nell Rose Garrett of Rosenberg; ..and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements werevunder the direction of Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors..
