Herald Coaster, January 4, 1993: Funeral services for Paul Bettin, 81, of Rosenberg, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Garmany & Carden Chapel in Rosenberg. The Rev. George Kuebler will officiate, with burial at Needville Public Cemetery. Mr. Bettin died Saturday at Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 26, 1911 in Needville. He was in the U.S. Army and served in the Philippines during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 3909 and the American Legion Post 271. Survivors include his wife, Esther Bettin of Rosenberg; three sisters, Ella Mesecke of Needville, Minnie Oakes of Rosenberg, and Nell Rose Garrett of Rosenberg; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be M.L. Ashley, Ruben Koeppen, Richard Parthum, Leon Slavinski, Roy Lee Oakes, and Herbert Bettin Jr. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice or to Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Monday at Garmany & Carden Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Services are under the direction of Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors in Rosenberg.
