Nuckolls County Herald (Nelson, NE), Friday, August 10, 1945; pg. 4 MRS. MARY KUCERA CALLED IN DEATH Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mary Kucera last Saturday morning at 8 a. m. at Assumption church (sic) in Deweese. Rev. Otto Ekhamel sang the Requiem High Mass and officiated at the burial ceremonies in Deweese cemetery. She was born on May 25, 1859 in Bytyska Moravia, a daughter of John and Mary Karmazin. She was united in marriage in 1877 (sic) and came to the United States in 1886. The family settled on a farm 5 miles east and 1 north of Lawrenc (sic). After the death of her husband in 1921 she made her home with her son, William until 1928 when she returned to her home in Deweese where she lived until, 2 years ago when poor health caused her to live for a short time with her son, William and then her daughter, Mrs. Frances Dobesh. Since Jan. 12, 1944 she made her home with her son, Thomas where she departed this life on July 25, 1945 at the age of 86 years and 2 months. Although failing in health death came unexpected after only a short illness caused by thematic fever. She leaves to mourn her lose seven children: Mrs. Frances Dobesh of Hastings, Frank of Scappoose, Oregon, John, Leonard, Prokop, William and Thomas all of Deweese. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Joseph who passed away Oct. 14, 1944, also an infant who died before the family came to America. Mrs. Kucera is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren. (eight of the grandchildren being in the services of our country. One sister, Mrs. Henry Herbeck (sic) Sr. and one brother, Thomas Karmazin of Deweese. Two brothers, Frank and Leo Karmazin and one sister, Mrs. Hlavac preceded her in death. She was a loving mother always thoughtful of the welfare of her children. Leaving her beloved neighbors and friends a heritage of exemplary Christian motherhood. Pallbearers were, Henry Herbek, Joseph Souchek, Julius Mazour, James Drudik, Fred Maixner and Simon Chvala.
