Leonard Kucera Passes Away Funeral services for Leonard J. Kucera were held Friday, April 9, 1976, at Sacred Heart Church, Lawrence, Nebraska. The Mass of Resurrection was offered at 10:00 a.m. by Father John Kelly who also officiated at the graveside service in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Commentator for the mass was a nephew, Edmund Kucera. The congregational singing was led by Thomas Dolnicek accompanied by Sister Herman Joseph at the organ. Pall Bearers were four grandsons, Arnold Kucera, Gerald Kucera, Richard Schroer, Ken Schroer, and two nephews, Clem Kucera and Larry Kucera. Leonard Kucera, son of John and Mary (Karmazin) Kucera was born near Deweese, Nebr., Nov. 1, 1891. He passed away at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebr., on April 7, 1976 at the age of 84 years, 5 mos. and 6 days. He lived all his life in the Deweese and Lawrence communities. He was united in marriage to Helen Harvanek, May 22, 1916 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese with Father Frank Kapecky officiating. Their married life was spent on a farm near Deweese until they retired in 1952 to their present home in Lawrence. He was a devoted husband and father and a member of the Catholic Workman of Deweese, Branch 140. He is survived by his wife, Helen, two sons, Emil of Hastings, Donald of Deweese, a daughter, Mrs. Al (Julia) Schroer of Lincoln. Ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Three brothers, John of Lawrence, Prokop and Tom Deweese. He was preceded in death by a son, Anton, three brothers, Joseph, Frank and William, one sister, Mrs. Frances Dobesh. Out-of-town who attended the funeral were from Lincoln, Nelson, Deweese, Hastings, Guide Rock, and Red Cloud. The Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, April 15, 1976; pg. 1
