Bio
Son of Chester Ferrington and his wife Adeline Curtis, who brought their family to Illinois about 1850. William, along with brothers John C. and George W., served in Company B of the 59th Illinois Infantry. Upon his return, William married Rebecca Jane Miner, on 3 March 1867 in Warren county, Illinois. Together, they were the parents of one son, Hugh Marshall Ferrington. The couple resided in Missouri for a time, but later separated. William married again, to Nancy C. Powell, widow of Rueben C. Raines (member of Company H, 21st Missouri Infantry), on 25 September 1879. Nancy was nearly 21 years older than William, and preceded him in death on 19 February 1914, while living at the veterans' home in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was buried with her first husband at Monmouth cemetery. In his final years, William lived with his brother John in Burlington, along with Harvey Tucker Raines. Harvey was the son of Reuben C. Raines and Nancy C. Powell, as well as the former husband of John Ferrington's second and former wife, Ella Oldham. William is buried in the Civil War section of Aspen Grove cemetery.
