Bio

Nancy C. Powell was said to have been born in Monroe, Virginia, the daughter of Bartlett Powell, born in Scotland, and Margaret McNeal, born in England. She married Reuben C. Raines, a veteran of the Civil War. Nancy was the mother of Harvey Tucker, Margaret E., Bartlett Milton, and John Oliver Raines. Following Reuben's death, Nancy married William C. Ferrington (divorced from Rebecca Jane (Miner) Ferrington), another veteran of the Civil War, on 25 September 1879 in Galesburg, Illinois. Nancy and William lived in Monmouth and Burlington, Iowa for a time, before moving into the Iowa Soldier's Home in Marshalltown, where she died. William died two years later in Burlington, and was buried in the Civil War section of Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.
