Bio

Daughter of Chester Ferrington and his wife Adeline Curtis. Lydia lived in Ohio as a child with her family, and came to Illinois about 1850, settling in Kelley township of Warren County. Lydia was a schoolteacher in Monmouth until she married Henry B. Kimball on 12 May 1864 - his second marriage. They were the parents of a daughter, Hattie Kimball, born about 1866. The family, including Henry's daughters Ida and Mary of his first marriage, moved to Chicago in 1864. Henry died there on 21 October 1883. Daughter Hattie married Leander H. Arnold in Chicago during 1885, and the couple had four children; Edwin preceded his parents in 1892, but they were survived by James, Florence, and Alice. These 3 children were orphaned young, with the death of Hattie in 1896, and Leander in 1897. They remained with their widowed grandmother, Lydia, and aunt Ida Kimball, leaving Chicago to live near other relatives residing in Galesburg, Illinois. Lydia's grandchildren were orphaned once again by her death in Galesburg during 1902. Florence and Alice became the wards of attorney W. E. Byers of Galesburg. Lydia's grave is unmarked. The cemetery records are available on the City of Galesburg website but may not be complete. She is listed there as "A D Kimball, female, age 68, 213 Arnold Street, Galesburg, buried 7 March 1902." The only description for the grave is block 54, lot 19, north 1/2, and that is the only grave listed in that half of the lot, comprising a dozen or so spaces. The southeast 1/4 of that lot lists Edward and Hattie Lieber, whose stone appears at the left edge of the photo, and 6 Malmstrom family graves in the southwest 1/4, and R W Whipple merely in the "south 1/2". To the right in the photo is the marker of Edwin B Wagoner at the southern edge of block 19, lot 14, within the Wagoner family plot.
