Bio

Married Irene Mae Schrader on October 16, 1947 at St. Marys Cathedral; Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska. They made their first home at 1104 West 10th Street in Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska. Brother of: Edward (1910), Angela (1912), Florence (1913), Henry (1914), Lloyd (1915), Floyd (1917), Lola (1921), Dorothy (1922), Albert(1923), Christine (1925) Arthur R. Goodwin, 78, of Grand Island died Tuesday, March 18, 1997, at his home. Services will be at 10 A.M. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Martin Egging will officiate. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 P.M. with a 7:30 P.M. rosary, Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the church. Mr. Goodwin was born on October 17, 1918, in Grand Island to James Milton and Idella Mary (Rayno) Goodwin. He was educated in the Grand Island Public Schools and St. Mary's School. He entered the U. S. Army in January 1942 and served in North Africa, Germany and France. He was honorably discharged in October 1945. He married Irene Schrader on October 16, 1947, in Grand Island. Mr. Goodwin worked at the Twin Rivers Egg Plant, Fairmont Foods, Fairacres Dairy and Grand Island Rug Cleaners. He also worked for Geer-Melkus Construction Co. and helped build the high school in Palmer and Sherman Dam. The couple then owned and operated the Arthur R. Goodwin Carpet Service. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Eagles, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, three sons, five daughters; 24 grandchildren; one step grandchild; one step great-grandchild; three brothers, Lloyd, Floyd and Albert Goodwin, all of Cairo; and one sister Christy Holz of Central City. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Henry Goodwin; and four sisters, Angela Stauss, Florence Leschinsky, Lola Potrzeba, and Dorothy Zlomke.
