Married Arthur R. Goodwin on October 16, 1947 at St. Marys Cathedral; Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska. They made their first home at 1104 West 10th Street in Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska. IRENE M. GOODWIN Irene M. Goodwin, 86, of Grand Island died Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Father Todd Philipsen will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday at Blessed Sacrament with a 7 pm Scripture/Rosary Service. Memorials are suggested to the Blessed Sacrament Altar Society. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Irene was born on December 26, 1922 in Grand Island to Dietrich and Emma (Goehring) Schrader. She grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1942. She was united in marriage to Arthur Goodwin on October 16, 1947 in Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island. Irene worked for Thompson Laundry, the Sugar Beet Factory, the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant and the Twin River Egg Plant. Irene and Arthur also owned and operated Arthur R. Goodwin Carpet Service. Mr. Goodwin preceded her in death on March 18, 1997. Irene and Arthur were charter members of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She also was a member of Blessed Sacrament Altar Society. She enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables and sewing/needlework. She made numerous dresses and tea towels for her daughters throughout the years. Irene was a caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include three sons and five daughters. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, one step grandchild and four step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, Ernest, Herman, Edward and Dietrich and two sisters, Marie and Emma Schrader.
