Note: "There is a small granite marker with Katherine GRZCHOWIAK 1850-1892 which was installed many years later in the cemetery. The actual location of the grave is not known so the marker is just there in memory of her.
Married to: 1. Stanislaus Zaucha on November 9, 1869 in Skryzskow Parish, Poland. The family story says that Stanislaus died on the ship while coming over to the United States, the family arrival listed as 21 May 1878. Married 2nd to: 2. Andrew Debney Grzechowiak on January 12, 1879 at St. Anthony's of Padura Catholic Church, a rural church in Platte County, Burrows Township, that existed c 1878-1973 when the church was combined with the parish of St. Michael's at Tarnov, Nebraska. Note: The birth year and the death year on the memorial stone is wrong; the death year should be 1893. Katharina met a tragic death which was related in newspaper accounts of that era. --- Note:Other children born of the union of Katharina & Andrew were: "Mary" b Apr 1880, shown on 1880 census records as 1 mth old; "Sophia", age 2, shown on 1885 census but no other place. "Antonina" b 10 May 1884, shown on Tarnov church records; died 12 Jan 1892 Duncan, Nebraska "Pauline b 20 Jun 1886, died 31 Aug 1885 (possibly of diptherian) "George" b 20 March 1889 and "Rose" b 2 Sept 1890, all shown on Duncan church records and "Infant" b 9 July 1893 shown in newspaper item. Probably buried with the mother. None of the above children have as yet been found in burial records. ************ Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Indepent Monday, 10 July 1893 Mrs. Debaney Dead Columbus, July 10 - Mrs. Debany, the woman shot by her husband near Genoa of the Fourth, died at the sister's hospital at 11 o'clock.
