Bio
Mary A. Serbus was born on 21 December 1901 to John William and Mary Ann Kojetin Serbus in Henryville Township, Renville County, Minnesota. Mary attended School District #12. On 08 November 1921, Mary Serbus married Phillip Hosek, the son of Thomas Hosek, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn, Minnesota. On 22 September 1926, the Olivia community was shocked by the news of the sudden death of Mary A. Serbus Hosek, in the Willmar Hospital in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. Mary had gone to the hospital on Monday, 22 September, to have her tonsils removed and died as a result of the surgery. Mary was survived by her husband, Phillip; son, Henry; daughter, Angela; parents, John William and Mary Ann; four brothers, James, William, John, and Matthew; and, three sisters, Anna Frank, Rosa Goblish, and Gertrude Serbus. The funeral service for Mary was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn; Reverend Father Jiracek conducted the service. Mary A. Serbus Hosek was buried in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota.
