Bio
Phillip Hosek was born on 27 May 1895, in Kingman Township, Renville County, Minnesota, to Mary Rose Benedict and Thomas Francis Hosek. Phillip attended the Olivia schools and married Mary A. Serbus on 08 November 1921, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn. Mary was the daughter of John William and Mary Ann Kojetin Serbus. Phillip’s wife, Mary A. Serbus Hosek, passed away on 22 September 1926. In 1960, he moved to Verndale; and in 1970, he moved to Clara City. Phillip never remarried. He spent many years working at Honzay’s Gas Station in Olivia. Phillip Hosek died at the age of 76 on Sunday, 21 November 1971, at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. He was survived by his son, Henry Phillip, of Clara City; daughter, Angela Marie (Stanley) Julson of Minneapolis; brother, George of Morton; and three sisters, Bessie Falman and Clare Helmer of Olivia, and Mary Karnos of Waterville; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. Phillip’s funeral service was held on Wednesday, 24 November 1971, at the Dirks Funeral Home in Olivia. Burial was in the Olivia Cemetery in Renville County, Minnesota. Pallbearers were Lee Helmer, Duane Helmer, Jerry Falman, Arthur Hosek, Eugene Helmer, and Stanley Houdek.
