Brainard Clipper (Brainard, Nebr.), August 18, 1927, p. 1, col. 6 Mrs. Katherine Mazanec Mrs. Katherine Mazanec died at the David City hospital, Wednesday morning, Aug. 10, following an operation for gall stones from which ailment she had suffered for several months. She was in her 67th year. Katherine Pohl was born in Prispo, in the state of Jarromica, Moravia, March 27, 1861. In 1879 she came, with her parents, to America, the family locating near Abie. In July 1883 she was united in marrige to John Mazanec, they residing for some years in that locality and later moving to a farm near Brainard. They lived on various places in this vicinity until March 1919 when they retired and moved to Brainard. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Mazanec, all of whom survive their parents, Mr. Mazanec having passed away on March 12, 1920. The children are Edward Mazanec of Chapman, Mrs. Joe Matousek of Atkinson, Louis Mazanec of Central City, Mrs. John Matousek of Rising City, Mrs. James Bohuslavsky of David City, and Adolph and Fred Mazanec of Colby, Kansas. Besides her children, deceased is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Jacob Stava of Bruno, Mrs. Agnes Chlopek of Bee, Mrs. Herman Klumpe of North Platte and Mrs. James Zeleny of Swanton, and two brothers, James Pohl of Bruno and John Pohl of Hastings. All of the children, sisters and one brother were present at the funeral services, the one brother John Pohl, being unable to attend. Funeral services were held at Holy Trinity church in Brainard on Friday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Klein. The Rosary Society, of which deceased had been a member, attended in a body and accompanied the remains to their resting place in the Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were James Pohl, Joseph Mazanec, Rudolph Rerucha, Joseph Shalon, William Kozisek, and Emil Stava. __________ CARD OF THANKS We sincerely thank everyone who in any way helped or extended us sympathy in our bereavement, especially the members of the Ruzenesky Spolek and those who gave flowers.
