CITIZEN OF 30 YEARS Thomas County lost another of her valued and enterprising farmers in the death of Adolf J. Mazanec at St. Thomas Hospital March 16. The following obituary is furnished to the Free Press by the family. Adolf J. Mazanec, son of John and Katerina Mazanec was born near Abie, Nebraska in August of 1887 and passed away March 16, 1951 as the St. Thomas hospital in Colby, Kansas. Requiem High Mass was sung by the Very Rev. Msgr. Edmond Arpin in the Sacred Heart Church of Colby. The body was laid to rest in the Sacred, Heart Cemetery in Colby. On June 19, 1916 he was united in marriage to Hattie E. Kobza. To this union seven children were born. He and his family came to Thomas County from Butler County, Nebraska in spring of 1921. He was a faithful member. Of the Catholic church and a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1924. He was an ardent man of the soil being a farmer all his life. Nothing gave him more pleasure than to till the soil and watch it produce its fruits. He leaves to mourn his wife, three sons, Raymond Mazanec of Atwood, Albin Mazanec of Colby and James at home. Three daughters, Mrs. Helen Horinek of Atwood, Mrs. Celestine Seivert of Rock Rapids, Iowa. Sister M. Rita Ana (Irene) of Concordia, Kansas, and Mary who passed away in infancy in 1929. Four grandchildren and also three brothers, Edward Mazanec of Central City, Nebraska and Fred Mazanec of Caldwell, Idaho. Three sisters, Mrs. Emma Matousek of Atkinson, Nebraska, Mrs. Agnes Matousek David City, Nebraska and Mrs. Mary Bohuslavsky of Rising City, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
