Birth - Přispach, Mährisch Budwitz, Moravia, Austria JAMES POHL LONG TIME RESIDENT DIES James Pohl, respected long-time citizen of this community, died at his home in Bruno on Wednesday evening, August 24, 1955, at 7:20 p.m. after an illness of approximately seven weeks. Funeral services were held from St. Anthony's Catholic church in Bruno on Saturday morning, August 27, at 9 o'clock. The Rev. Daniel J. Pohl of Lincoln a grandson, offered the requiem High Mass. The pastor, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. P. J. Kopecky preached the funeral sermon. In the sanctuary, also, were the Rt. Rev. Msgr. William Rezabek of Prague and the Rev. Roger Rumery, O.S.B. of Atchison, Kansas. The servers at the altar were two grandsons, Kenneth and Dennis Pohl, and Alois Husak. Music was by a Bruno-Brainard choir, with Sister M. Gertrude de N.D. at the organ. Burial was in the family plot in Assumption cemetery at Appleton, with the burial rites conducted by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mlejnek. The pallbearers were three sons, James, Edward and John, and three grand-sons, Raymond, James and Eugene Pohl. The Catholic Workman members attended in an honorary body. James Pohl was born in Moravia in Czechoslovakia on September 22, 1867, and his age at the time of his passing was 87 years, 11 months and 22 days. He came to this country with his parents when he was nine years old. His marriage to Mary Petr was solemnized in Sts. Peter and Paul church in Able on April 21, 1896, and in April of this year they had been married 59 years. Until the retirement of Mr. and Mrs. Pohl when they moved to Bruno to live their declining years, they successfully farmed near Bruno. To them were born six sons and four daughters. Two sons, Raymond and Alexander preceded their father in death. Surviving the deceased are his wife, sons, James, Jr., Norristown, Pennsylvania, Ed-ward, Chapman, John, Bruno, CRM Andrew, Carlsbad, California, daughters, Sister M. Gerard de N.D. (Martha) Dwight, Sister M. Majella de N.D. (Katherine) Omaha, Sister. M. Juliana de N.D. (Mary) Prague and Mrs. Edwin Hinesh (Genevieve) Neunsburg, Germany. With the exception of Andrew and Mrs. Hinesh, all of his children were present at the funeral. One sister, Mrs. Agnes Chloupek, Huntsville, Missouri also survives. Mr. Pohl was a devout Catholic. He rendered his services to the church by playing the organ and directing the choir in St. Anthony's church in Bruno for several years and in Assumption church in Appleton for 26 years. With his long white beard, he was a distinguished appearing figure in any fathering. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends, who came to pay their last respects to a man whose lively faith in God was sincere and compelling. They came from Omaha, Grand Island, Gothenburg, Seward, Broken Bow, Dwight, Brainard, Ulysses, Loma, Prague, Clay Center, David City, Schuyler, Lincoln and Bruno.
