Michael Goblirsch was born on 18 April 1847, of German descent, in Pabelsdorf #13 (now Pavlikov), Bohemia, Czechoslovakia (now Czechia). He came to America at the age of 19 on 11 June 1866, and settled in Cottonwood, Brown County, Minnesota. Michael and Katherina "Katherine" Weis applied for their marriage license in Brown County, Minnesota, on 31 December 1870. They were married on 04 January 1871 at New Ulm, Brown County, by Roman Catholic Priest, Alexander Bergholz. Katherina came to America, from Austria, with her brother, Wolfgang Weis, in 1868, and lived in Cottonwood, Brown County, for two years prior to her marriage. A few months after their marriage, Michael and Katherina left Brown County and moved to Renville County, Minnesota, where they settled on a homestead in Henryville Township. Michael built his first home for Katherina; it was a sod shanty. A few years later, he built a log house for his family. The first winter Michael brought flour from New Ulm, using a hand sleigh, and for many years he hauled his crops to Willmar in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, using a team of oxen. Over the years, Michael was overtaken by many of the great blizzards; but, was always spared to return home to his family in the wilderness. Later, he made these trips with his comrades, Morris O'Neill and the Holdens and Barkeys. As one of the earliest settlers in Henryville Township, Michael often spoke of how, with the only oxen team in the county, he hauled logs for his neighbors so they could build their homes. Michael was always ready to help and it brought him great joy when another settler arrived to move into the neighborhood. Michael and Katharina had four sons, John, Michael, Joseph, and Frank; and, six daughters, Mary (Singer), Katrina (Norris), Barbara (Martin), Margaret (Arnold), Anne (Hopman) and Bertha (Wacek). Michael lived on his homestead until he died. He was always a loyal citizen to his adopted country and to his church. Michael lived a good life and brought his family up in the Catholic faith, which he upheld to the end of his life. Michael died on 09 January 1929, at his home in Henryville Township, Renville County. At the time of his death, his works were visible when a large number of his grandchildren gathered to pay their respects to their Grandfather by reciting prayers at his bedside. Michael was of full consciousness until his last hour. Michael was buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota.
