Bio

Bertha Mary Goblirsch was born on 18 January 1889, to Michael and Katharine Weis Goblirsch in Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota. She married George Patrick Wacek, the son of Peter P. and Mary Svoboda Wacek, on 27 July 1914 in Vesta, Redwood County, Minnesota. Bertha and George farmed in rural Renville County, Minnesota, where they raised their seven children, Evelyn Mary, George Patrick, Jr., Margaret Lucille, Joseph Martin, John Henry, Susanna Alice, and Bertha Katherine “Bertie” Wacek. Bertha Mary Goblirsch Wacek died at the age of 93, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota, on Sunday evening, 26 September 1982. She had been residing in the Ren-Villa Nursing Home in Renville, and was a former resident of Olivia. Bertha was survived by three sons, George of Olivia; Joseph of Custer, Washington; and John of Albany, Oregon; four daughters, Evelyn (Emert) Knaresboro and Bertha (Don) Taylor, of ElCajon, California; and Margaret (Henry) Durham and Susan (Caroll) Langbeen, of Sacramento, California; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Wacek, three brothers, and four sisters. Visitation was held after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, 29 September, at the Dirks Funeral Home in Olivia. The funeral service for Bertha Mary was held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, 30 September 1982, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota. Pallbearers were Peter Wacek, Donald Goblirsch, John Steinbeisser, Edward Wacek, Joseph Goblirsch, and Earl Swoboda. Interment followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota.
