Bio

Herald Coaster, July 22, 1996: Funeral services for Sophie "Ma" Cario, 73, of Needville, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 1996, at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Needville. The Rev. Dan Walker and the Rev. Richard Avery will officiate the services. Burial will follow in the Needville Public Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne and Arthur Lee Schmidt, Neal and Gary Kalinowski, Marvin Hedt, and Steven Schwettman. Sophie was born April 21, 1923 in Needville and passed away July 20, 1996 at Polly Ryon Hospital in Richmond. She is survived by her sons, Larry Cario and wife, Diane, of Needville, Terry Cario and friend, Mary Ann Matula, of Rosenberg; granddaughters, Gwen Cario of Needville, Mandi Cario of Angleton; great-granddaughter, Alexis Paige Cario of Angleton; sisters, Leola Schmidt, Erna Sury, Hilda Kalinowski, Charlotte Hedt, and Lizzie Jeske, all of Needville; sisters-in-law, Rosie Schwettmann of Needville, Mary Bakaitis of Dayton, Ohio; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Nancy Cario of Washington, PA; and many nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schwettmann; husband, Pete Cario; daughter, Linda Cario; five brothers and two sisters. She was loved and cherished by all and will remain in our hearts forever. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund. Visitation begins 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 23 at Garmany & Carden Funeral Home, 3103 School St., Needville, TX.
