Herald Coaster, August 18, 1969: Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Schwettmann, 86, of Needville, are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. from St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Needville, with the Rev. Richard D. Avery officiating. Burial will be in the Needville Public Cemetery. Mrs. Schwettmann died Wednesday in Polly Ryon Hospital. She was born April 28, 1883 in Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Deiss. She came to the United States at the age of four and had been a resident of Fort Bend County for 67 years. She was married to the late Henry Schwettmann in Washington County on Oct. 6, 1898. Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Otto Hedt, Mrs. Louise Jeske, Mrs. Joe Sury, Mrs. Bill Schmidt, Mrs. Hilda Kalinowski, and Mrs. M. T. Cario, all of Needville; two sons, August Schwettmann and Raymond Schwettmann, both of Needville. There were also six sisters: Mrs. Alma Kramer of Rosenberg, Mrs. Erna Gummelt of Waco, Mrs. Selma Arnold, of Waco, Mrs. Lillie Luedemann of Brenham; two brothers, Arthur Deiss of Beasley and Arnold Deiss of Alabama. One step-sister, Mrs. Alvina Hienmann, and one step-brother, Fritz Steinfeldt, both of Waco, survive. There are 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Schwettmann was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church of Needville.
