Texas Coaster, January 9, 1947: Funeral services for Arnold John W. Schwettmann, 26, were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Presbyterian church here, with Rev. J. R. Vilt officiating. Burial was in the Needville Public cemetery. Schwettmann was born October 29, 1920, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schwettmann of Needville. He was baptized and later confirmed at Immanuel's Evangelical church at Needville. Arnold had a hard boyhood, suffering with infantile paralysis for over a year. When he was 14 years old he weighed on 32 pounds. Because of this sickness he received catechism and Bible instruction privately by Rev. Vilt, who was pastor of Immanuels church at that time, in order to be confirmed in the faith with boys and girls of his age. He worked with his people on a farm close to Four Corners near Needville. He left the world by his own free will and died at the Fort Bend hospital January 3 at 7:30 p.m. Pallbearers were Pete Balcerowicz, Adolph Graeber Jr., Wilbert Blume, Otto Koehne, Joseph E. Pesak and Willie Koehne. He is survived by his parents; two brothers, August and Raymond; six sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Hedt, Mrs. Louise Jeske, Mrs. Leola Schmidt, Mrs. Hilds Kalinowski, Mrs. Sophie Cario and Miss Erna Schwettmann, and other relatives. The Foerster Funeral home directed.
